Demand / Supply Management
The Remarketing value chain is unique because it is both supply and demand led. The flow of returned, retired, and to some extent, surplus products is random. These assets require a value return and an element of ‘demand shaping’ to maximise their sales and value disposition.
Current markets are broker-dominated and heavily influenced by product availability and pricing. The response to market demand must be determined by planning and resource positioning. If an equivalent supply is not available in the reverse pipeline, then sourcing action may be required. This sourcing should be structured, and authorised by the manufacturer. Targeted trade-ins and structured buy-backs are techniques which work well in this area. Resorting to broker purchases is not an option. Analysis of market availability and source may indicate control problems that need to be addressed within the manufacturer’s reverse logistics processes.
The factors involved in the secondary market are not easily or consistently dealt with by the conventional processes governing new product flow.
Applying Multis’ focus and attention to this area can prove very beneficial to both manufacturer revenue and asset utilisation. The manufacturer controls the execution and management of this service.
